Just Who is the Hungry Hungarian?

Hi! I'm David McCartney, age 53, married and the father of four children. I live in central New Jersey, USA, and I am self employed as an owner of a commercial printing and web design company (McCartney Media) and a Internet printing company (print2net.com) I also operate a knitting mill producing an industrial fabric used in the printing industry (Novatech Graphic Industries).

Cooking is my hobby and Hungarian cuisine happens to be my favorite. I have been pursuing this outlet for about ten years. I was prompted to learn more about the family Hungarian dishes I enjoyed as a child when my mother became ill with cancer. I borrowed her recipes and tapped her memory to begin teaching myself how to cook Hungarian.

I'm not what you would consider a 'natural' in the kitchen. I have to start with a published recipe before striking out on my own. For me, cooking is akin to elephants making love:

A.) It requires a tremendous amount of preparation,
B.) It takes a long time to consummate, and
C.) Success often comes only after repeated attempts.

Cooking is also therapeutic for me. The kitchen is the one place where I can forget the day's troubles and be swept away by both the aromas and the creative process. It's also a good time to enjoy my esoteric taste in music which has the added benefit of clearing out the kitchen in a hurry!

I can usually only find time on weekends to break out the pots and pans. I think that my wife and homemakers like her have the more difficult task: preparing the daily meals on a tight schedule and within a defined budget. Weekend chefs like myself have the luxury of time to be creative and experimental. In our family, however, this arrangement works well...my wife gets a break and I get to play!

Happy cooking!
